The WAVE Programme
This Waterford Area Vocational Enterprise programme aims to facilitate people who have mental health difficulties to develop the skills, knowledge, confidence and resources that will assist towards:
- Making realistic vocational choices leading to:
- A gradual move into employment / work
- Advancing to higher levels of training / education
- Developing skills to use and demonstrate personal effectiveness and self-advocacy skills
- Increased social and health gain leading to:
- Increased participation in the community and community activities
- An increase in self-confidence and self-esteem
- The development of improved coping skills
- An increased awareness and a better understanding of mental health issues
Programme Duration
The WAVE training programme is two years in duration and consists of various modules. Training is delivered in part by WAVE in Canada St., Waterford and in part in the Adult Education Centre, in Ozanam St., Waterford. The programme is delivered 2 days per week in the AEC throughout the academic year and in WAVE from June to mid September inclusively.
Progression
Canditates from the WAVE programme have successfuly returned to employement or have moved on to other further education programmes in VTOS, Waterford College of Further Education and WIT.
