What Does the Scheme Provide?
The Adult Literacy Service provides opportunities for adults to develop a range of skills in areas such as reading, writing, spelling, numeracy, form filling, letter writing, computer literacy and personal development. The tuition is free of charge and offered on a one to one basis or in a group setting depending on individual needs.
Courses offered at the Adult Literacy Service will help students to deal with tasks such as the following:

1. RETURN TO LEARNING
Improve your reading, writing, spelling or maths in a relaxed, adult friendly environment, where you will be offered lots of support and given an opportunity to build your skills and confidence.
One-to-one and small group learning available.
Accreditation at FETAC level 3 also available.
2.ESSENTIAL SKILLS COURSE
This 84 hour course will give an opportunity to prepare you for other courses
3. INTRODUCTION TO I.T.
This introductory course will help you to develop basic computer skills and gain accreditation at FETAC Level 3.
4. CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND PLAY
FETAC Level 3
5. MANAGING PERSONAL FINANCES
FETAC Level 3.
6. OFFICE PROCEDURES
FETAC Level 3.
7. INTERNET SKILLS
FETAC Level 3.
8. RECEPTION SKILLS
FETAC Level 4.
9. BUSINESS CALCULATIONS
FETAC Level 4.
10. CAREER PLANNING
FETAC Level 3.
TRAINING DELIVERY
Venue: The Adult Education Centre, Railway Square or in community settings.
Duration: 2 – 6 hours per week for a number of weeks depending on the module requirements.
Participants: 6 – 8 individuals per group or 1:1 tuition is also available.
Content: Tailored to individual participant’s needs.
Trainers: Qualified VEC tutors.
